Sciatic Nerve Treatment

Few of us ever bother to think about those two sciatic nerves, the largest in our entire body, until something starts to irritate them. Once the pain starts shoots down the leg, sciatic nerve treatment is absolutely what we think about.

Sciatic Nerve TreatmentSciatica is not really a problem in itself but more of a symptom due to a deeper cause of which there are many. Bad posture over the years or a back injury can set it off but more often now, being overweight is a factor that eventually results in sciatic pain.

Sciatica can often be helped by various self treatment methods which thankfully can be as successful and effective as medical drugs. For long term relief this is probably a better choice of action since drugs usually have side effects and normally just hide the symptoms of pain without addressing the cause of the trouble.

Everyone is different and so if you suffer from sciatica you must try a few experiments to see what helps ease your suffering. The first treatment is obviously just rest and keeping off your feet. Try to lie in as comfortable a position for as long as you can for the first 48 hours.

Once the pain has struck don’t think of exercise or stretching until resting for a few days. Both exercise and stretching can be quite useful but not when you are in pain to start with. Ice packs on the painful area are often helpful but some people have discovered that altering between ice and warmth better so try a hot water bottle as well.

Unfortunately too many only follow a sciatic nerve treatment during the time they are actually hurting. The real treatment should start once you feel a bit better where you can address the real reason causing the sciatica so that you can start to prevent it flaring up again.
